Clearwater cleaner washing a glass pool fence panel, water sheeting down the glass with the pool behind

Our glass pool fence cleaning covers every panel and both faces, including the white mineral marks that pool splash leaves behind. Glass balustrades on balconies, decks and stairs are done the same way.

Both sides, or there is no point

A pool fence is a single sheet of glass you look straight through. Clean one face and leave the other and you have made it worse, because now you are looking at the dirty side through a clean one.

So both faces of every panel get done, including the ones that are awkward to get behind and the panels facing the neighbour. Pool gates are kept shut while we work.

The white marks are pool water

Splash lands on the glass, sits there in the sun, and dries. The salt and calcium it was carrying stay behind. That happens in the same band on the same panels every time anyone gets in the pool, which is why the marks form a line instead of covering the panel evenly.

Salt water pools are worse for this, and a panel that catches afternoon sun is worse again, because the water dries faster.

Old marks and etched glass

Most splash lines come off, whether they are from the pool or from a sprinkler that reaches the fence.

Marks that have sat on a panel for years can etch into the glass, and no clean takes that out. If a panel is etched, we’ll tell you before we start.

Spigots, clamps and fittings

The fittings get cleaned. They do not get worked on.

Stainless spigots and clamps tea-stain, particularly around salt water, and they come up well with the right approach. We will not adjust or tighten anything.

If a spigot is loose, a clamp is corroded or a panel has movement in it, we will point it out and leave it there. A pool fence is a safety barrier with compliance rules attached, and that is the installer’s job.

Balustrades, decks and stair glass

Balcony balustrades, deck panels and frameless stair glass are all large panels with two faces each and long clean edges that show every miss. They also tend to be glass nobody has cleaned since it went in.

How often

More often than feels necessary, if it is near a pool.

The splash never stops, so deposits are always building. Twice a year keeps them from bonding. Leave it much beyond a year and it stops being a clean and becomes restoration work.

Frequently asked questions

Are both sides done?

Yes, every panel, both faces. A panel cleaned on one side only looks worse than one left alone, because you are now looking at the dirty side through a clean one.

What are the white marks that will not come off?

Mineral deposits from pool water. Splash dries on the glass and leaves the salt and calcium behind, in the same place every time. Deposits sitting on the surface come off. If they have been building for years they can start etching into the glass, and that part is damage rather than dirt. We will tell you which one you have before we start.

Will you damage the spigots or the fittings?

No. The fittings get cleaned, not worked on. Stainless spigots and clamps mark and tea-stain, particularly near salt water, and they clean up with the right approach. If a spigot is loose or a clamp is corroded, we will point it out, because a pool fence is a safety barrier and that is a job for the installer.

Do you do frameless balustrades and stair glass too?

Yes. Balcony balustrades, deck panels and stair glass are the same work: large panels, two faces each, and edges that show every miss.

How often is worth doing?

Twice a year, if the glass is near a pool. The splash never stops, and twice a year keeps deposits from bonding. Leave it a year or more and they start needing real work instead of a clean.

James and team did a great job cleaning our external windows recently, including windows up high. James was very pleasant to deal with and was happy to touch up a few more spots after I mentioned. Thanks James.

James, Isaac and Zac just completed cleaning the exterior of all our windows to a very high standard. Our Edwardian home presented a range of height and access challenges which they tackled efficiently and professionally. They were punctual and very respectful as they worked diligently attending to every detail of the windows’ exterior. We would not hesitate to highly recommend them for your professional cleaning requirements. Thanks again James, Zac and Isaac.

You don’t realise how dirty your windows are until someone as skilled as James and his team comes and cleans them! Always very impressed with his work, would really recommend! even if you are someone who has never paid attention to getting your windows cleaned, I promise you will see the value in it after James comes and works his magic!
